25 Years of GlobalSign - All Eyes on Jake

This year we’re celebrating GlobalSign’s 25th anniversary since its founding in 1996. Each month in 2021, we’ll be introducing you to a member of the GlobalSign team – representing countries from all over the globe, departments from Product Management to Compliance to Customer Support, and with years of service from one to 25…these are the people working hard behind the scenes to bring industry-leading PKI and identity solutions to the world.

Today we are featuring a member of our Professional Services team, Jake Mahoney. Keep reading to learn more about Jake's highlights from the past few years and check out our interactive website for more 25th Anniversary updates (including a very cool infographic).

GS: What is your role here at GlobalSign?

JM: I’m a Professional Services Engineer for the US region/time-zone.

GS: How long have you worked for GlobalSign?

JM: March 2018, can’t believe it’s going on 4 years now!

GS: Where do you call home?

JM: Dover New Hampshire, by way of Everett Massachusetts.

GS: What is the best part of your job?

JM: Working with colleagues across the world. Knowing that the people I work with and the environment I work in promote cooperation, teamwork, friendliness, etc. is a great feeling to have every day.

GS: How would you describe the GlobalSign culture in one word?

JM: “Collaboration.” If I could summarize it in a few words, it would be “Sustained collaboration on our shared working values and experiences.”

GS: What makes GlobalSign unique?

JM: We go the “extra mile” in every aspect. Projects, customer care, compliance, communications. And our shared experiences, teamwork, etc. across the regions allow us to go the extra mile. I can’t imagine any other industry players are as personable (yet professional) as GlobalSign.

GS: Is there a year that stands out in your mind from your tenure at GlobalSign?

JM: My first year here was a whirlwind, but I really enjoyed it! I started in Support and quickly learned how customers communicate and absorb our products, which set me up for the rest of my tenure here up until today.

GS: Can you share one of your most memorable moments from that year?

JM: Funny story, that I’m not sure why I find it so memorable… Once I was on a call with a client having some urgent issues requiring resolution before end of that day (a Friday in July). After work, I was planning on beginning driving down to Florida (a 23-hour drive) to meet friends for an event. This was delayed a bit, as I was on the phone with the customer’s team until late in the evening. Once the issue was resolved, I was able to start my long drive…and the entire way down I was thinking about certificates and the customer's issues. At least it kept my mind busy on the 23-hour drive 😝.

GS: What would you consider your biggest work accomplishment so far?

JM: Various project collaborations with teams across the world, and of course helping clients daily for enterprise certificate use cases. We have a small team, so I feel proud with the work we accomplish daily.

GS: There have been plenty of changes in the CA and identity services industry over the course of the last two-and-a-half decades. What’s one of the most significant changes you’ve witnessed during your time with the company?

JM: The change in the CA industry, going from charging for certificates to charging for certificate Software-as-a-Service. I'm proud of the fact that we are evolving with the industry and attuning to newer APIs and Cloud platform integrations that leverage our certificate services (for example, with Auto Enrollment Gateway, our IoT offerings, MDM and ACME integrations, etc).

GS: What security tip have you learned since working at GlobalSign that you didn’t know before you started?

JM: One thing I quickly realized after starting at GlobalSign is that the internet security infrastructure is constantly evolving, and it’s doing so more rapidly as time goes on. To stay secure, one must be acutely aware of industry standards/changes. And that’s where we come in! We can understand those for the clients.

GS: What’s something you’re working on right now that you can’t wait to share with others?

JM: I’m eagerly awaiting to refine and streamline the internal processes around our IoT Edge Enroll services, so that we can offer even better support than before. It’s a different type of service than we’re traditionally used to offering, so I think the internal teams will be excited to absorb this new information.

GS: What makes you most excited about the future of tech/security?

JM: We’ve leveraged ourselves to be valuable to security-conscious clients for the foreseeable future by means of our newer enterprises services and back-end.
This is exciting as security/certificate authenticating services on the internet are ever-moving to SaaS-based management by third parties (like GlobalSign.) So we’re in a good spot!

GS: What does GlobalSign’s 25th anniversary mean to you?

JM: It’s reassuring! Our unique company culture/leadership and roadmap for the future makes me confident that we’ll have a 50th anniversary in 25 years, with the same type of organizational framework and culture.

Here, here. We look forward to any opportunity to celebrate (with cake, ideally). Huge thanks for representing the best of GlobalSign and always going the extra mile for our customers, Jake!
