GMO GlobalSign (www.globalsign.com), a leading provider of identity and security solutions for the Internet of Everything (IoE), will be exhibiting at Hannover Messe next week and will be part of a demonstration that shows a security event monitoring center with multiple vendors and different solutions. The joint demonstration of both the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) and Plattform Industrie 4.0 aims to highlight industrial internet security, interoperability and collaboration.
Industrie 4.0 represents the biggest driver of productivity and growth in the coming years, but with that comes unprecedented security risks and an increase in sophisticated cyber-attacks. Security of connected industrial systems is non-negotiable and can be achieved using existing technology and without disrupting operations. Manufacturers will be able to view end-to-end interaction of industrial security systems leveraging products and technologies available today that can be integrated into their environments seamlessly.
The demonstration is part of the Joint Task Group 5 (JTG5), a collaborative group made up of participants from the Industrial Internet Consortium and Plattform Industrie 4.0. Over 20 companies are contributing to this demonstration including Bosch, Dell, GlobalSign, Infineon, Intel, Siemens and Xilinx.
“The purpose of the demonstration is to show how current vendor products can be securely integrated into a joint and interoperable security monitoring solution, using current-gen and proven technologies,” said Nisarg Desai, Product Manager of IoT at GlobalSign. “For the demonstration, various OT devices from different manufacturers will send events and alerts data to multiple security information event management (SIEM) systems - both local and cloud-based. All of these devices operate in separate security domains, but can still interoperate and trust each other.”
As part of the demonstration, GlobalSign is working with one of its IoT security partners, Infineon. Integrating GlobalSign’s Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) solutions with Infineon’s hardware introduces strong security elements to solve the device identity problem in industrial control systems and manufacturing. Implementing PKI for IoT security ensures data exchanged between devices can be trusted, hasn’t been altered and because it is encrypted, it cannot be read in transit or intercepted.

This demo shows how well our deliverables complement third-party products to provide easy-to-integrate industrial security solutions,” said Jenya Klein, Product Marketing Industrial Security at Infineon Technologies.
The GlobalSign certificate authority (CA) services for this demonstration provide two separate PKI hierarchies that chain up to the same root. Each hierarchy behaves like an independent CA and the goal is to cross-certify the two independent CAs so that devices from one hierarchy can trust devices from the other.
The base of the demonstration can be found in Stands C24 & D24 of Hall 8 of Hannover Messe and live demonstrations can be found in other stands and halls throughout the Messe, in other parts of Germany and in other locations around the world.

In addition to participating in the IIC and Plattform Industrie 4.0 demonstration, GlobalSign will be contributing to a Security Claims Evaluation Testbed panel with aicas, UL and Xilinx on Tuesday, April 25th at 5:00 p.m. in the forum adjoining the IIC pavilion.
The IIC recently hosted a webinar on the demonstration, “Industrial Internet Security in Action – Interoperable IIoT Event Monitoring.”
