GlobalSign to Participate in Joint Demonstration Aimed at Improving Industrial Cybersecurity Event Monitoring at IoT Solutions World Congress Barcelona

27 September 2017

BOSTON, MA – September 27, 2017 – GMO GlobalSign (www.globalsign.com), a leading provider of identity and security solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT), will exhibit at IoT Solutions World Congress in Barcelona next week. During the event, GlobalSign will be part of a demonstration being presented at two different show floor locations. The demonstration, which features industrial security event monitoring, interoperability and collaboration, will be shown at its partner’s booth, Infineon Technologies (booth #B 278, Hall 5), as well as at the Industrial Internet Consortium’s (IIC) member pavilion. GlobalSign is demonstrating a joint solution for leveraging strong device identity at the Infineon booth, based on the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) integration by Infineon and GlobalSign.

GlobalSign is providing PKI services and acting as the neutral third party Certificate Authority (CA) to all the devices and components included in the demonstration and testbed. The goal is to cross-certify the two independent CAs, so that devices from one hierarchy can trust devices from the other. This is the latest version of the demonstration, which was unveiled earlier this year at Hannover Messe in Germany by the Joint Task Group (JTG5), which includes more than 20 leading industrial Internet companies.

“PKI has become so ubiquitous it is now a critical component for securing all the use cases we’ll be showcasing at IoT Solutions World Congress this year,” said Nisarg Desai, product manager of IoT solutions at GlobalSign. “The demonstration and testbed that we are participating in validates how vendor products can be securely integrated into joint security solutions for manufacturers around the world, despite the fact that the devices operate in separate security domains.”

In addition to the demonstration and testbed, Desai will join industry colleagues in a panel discussion that will explore the opportunities, challenges and best practices for securing software over the air updates for connected cars. The discussion, “Securing mandatory over the air updates,” will take place on Thursday, October 5th from 11:55 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in room 2. The talk will focus on the security aspects of how connected cars may soon receive frequent software updates to repair newly discovered problems, patch cybersecurity vulnerabilities, improve performance and add new features, such as new algorithms to increase fuel economy or update infotainment apps.

With billions of devices connecting to the Internet, companies are increasingly challenged with properly addressing IoT security. As the industry’s only high-scale certificate service, GlobalSign is meeting this challenge, and is capable of delivering certificates at IoT scale – as many as 3,000 per second – to meet the security needs of IoT innovators worldwide.
