GlobalSign and Wi-SUN Alliance to Present Webinar on How the Wi-SUN Field Area Network Specification Drives Security and Interoperability for IoT Devices

30 August 2018

BOSTON, MA – August 30, 2018 – GMO GlobalSign (www.globalsign.com), a global Certificate Authority and leading provider of identity and security solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT), today announced that it will participate in a webinar presented by the Wi-SUN Alliance. The organizations will discuss how Wi-SUN’s Field Area Network (FAN) certification drives interoperability for the Smart Utilities and Smart Cities marketplaces. The webinar will take place on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from noon to 1:00 pm EDT.

GlobalSign’s Director of Product Management for the IoT, Nisarg Desai, and Wi-SUN Alliance President, Phil Beecher, will co-present on the importance of establishing a strong test and certification program for enabling true interoperable products for Smart Utility, Smart City, and related IoT markets. As hundreds of millions, and soon billions, of intelligent and connected devices are used to optimize the management of critical infrastructure and resources, and to provide new services, interoperability will be critical to assuring affordable and secure solutions in a rapidly evolving environment.

This approach can be created with standards-based implementations for all different layers of the internet protocol stack, from Physical layer to the Application layer. On the security side, the approach is achievable by combining robust digital certificate-based authentication with strong encryption at the network level to conceal IP addresses and other sensitive information, as well as implementing application-layer security for specific devices and applications.

Webinar attendees will learn the specific steps organizations are taking to achieve true interoperability, guaranteeing that cybersecurity best practices are in place for the IoT world. Ensuring standardized solutions in wireless communications helps utilities, cities, and, ultimately, businesses and consumers reap the benefits of an increasingly connected world.
