Florida County Courts Tap Leading Certificate Authority for Tamper-Proof Digital Signature Solutions

29 January 2019

BOSTON, MA, January 29, 2019 -- GMO GlobalSign (www.globalsign.com), a global Certificate Authority (CA) and the leading provider of identity and security solutions for the IoT (Internet of Things), today announced that an increasing number of Florida county courts are now using GlobalSign’s digital signature solutions for legally binding, self-validating and tamper-proof certified copies of Court  documents. This includes Holmes, Okaloosa, Jackson, Broward, Putnam, St. Lucie,  Indian River, Osceola and Union counties. In one county alone, nearly 150 certified documents are being purchased each day. The documents are available for ordering online and is available for anyone with a valid credit card at ClerkECertify.com.

With ClerkECertify, users can order and immediately receive certified copies of final judgments, land records, court records and other public documents through a secure web portal. In addition, government agencies, public institutions, banks and other entities can easily authenticate the documents’ digital signature and security to confirm that the documents have not been altered. This capability enables local governments to serve an increasingly digital society and tackle document fraud – a longstanding problem in Florida. According to an October 2018 Wallet Hub report, Florida is ranked second on the list of U.S. states most vulnerable to identity fraud and theft, which can be the result of official document tampering. The solution is already receiving numerous customer accolades.

“With electronic certified documents, local governments are taking steps to serve a digital society and tackle document fraud while increasing efficiency,” said The Honorable Brenda D. Forman, Clerk of the Courts, Broward County.

“In today’s world of digital documents, with increasing need for verifiable and tamper-proof certified documents, the Putnam County Clerk of Courts has partnered with Triedata Inc, and GlobalSign to offer electronically certified documents,” said the Honorable Tim Smith, Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller, Putnam County Florida. “Preventing fraud in Court documents is one of my highest priorities.”

“We are excited to announce that we have added ClerkE-Certify from Triedata as an efficiency upgrade,” said Jeffrey R. Smith, Clerk of Circuit Court & Comptroller, Indian River County. “ClerkE-Certify protects citizens and businesses from fraudulent activity and allows our staff to ensure a safe release of official records and certify their authenticity is a secure format.”

Operated by GlobalSign partner Triedata Inc., ClerkE-Certify also dramatically increases efficiency at the participating county clerk’s offices. By moving from traditional ‘wet signatures’ to digitally signed documents, the counties are benefitting in other ways, from reduced cost savings and decreased environmental impact due to the reduction in paper usage, to a decrease in foot traffic at the clerks’ offices.

“We are extremely pleased to be working with Triedata and to enable county clerks to secure critical public documents, as well as help make them more readily available to residents there,” said Lila Kee, General Manager, Americas, GlobalSign. “ClerkECertify is a fantastic solution that we hope to offer to other municipalities in the U.S. in 2019.”

About GlobalSign’s Digital Signature Solutions

GlobalSign’s digital signatures help organizations meet the requirements of many national and industry-specific regulations regarding the legal acceptance of electronic signatures in place of wet ink signatures. As a member of Adobe’s Approved Trust List (AATL) and Microsoft Root Trust List, GlobalSign’s document signing certificates are compatible with the leading programs and are an easy to use, cost-effective way to add digital signatures to documents. GlobalSign document signing certificates and services scale to accommodate businesses of all sizes, from small and medium businesses to large enterprises.

In addition to GlobalSign’s traditional digital signing solutions – via tokens or an on-premise hardware security module – the company’s Digital Signing Service (DSS) eliminates implementation barriers and lowers the cost of adding trusted digital signatures to any document workflow solution. Unveiled in 2017, DSS is cloud-based, highly scalable and API-driven to seamlessly integrate with commercial and custom document workflow solutions – eliminating the need for additional security hardware and providing publicly trusted and compliant digital signatures.
