Challenge
Based in South Africa, Realyst has been providing contract management software and services for over twenty years. Their mission is to help businesses manage contracts across the entire organization – from sales contracts, to procurements, to HR.
Four years ago, Realyst developed its own digital signature tool to help its customers digitize the contract process. After seeing success of the signature tool combined with the contract management software, they soon realized there was demand for a stand-alone digital signature tool as well.
They began working with a client in the telecom space to implement the contract management software as well as the digital signature tool. During the implementation, the customer made it clear that they would need a solution backed by digital certificates since they worked primarily with financial companies. The financial industry has specific regulations surrounding data and security. In order for Realyst to win this customer’s business they would need to be able to offer a higher level of encryption and authentication when documents are signed.
Due to a lack of local certificate authorities in South Africa who could issue the digital certificates their customers needed, Realyst had to look elsewhere for a solution.

Solution
After finding GlobalSign through a regional partner, Realyst was able to roll the digital signing service solution out through their platform shortly after. Through one, simple REST API, Realyst was able to integrate DSS into their existing software. All supporting cryptographic components, including signing certificates, key management, timestamping server, and OCSP or CRL service, are provided in one API call with minimal development or overhead needed and no on-premises hardware to manage.
