North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) Names GlobalSign Chief Product and Marketing Officer Lila Kee to Wholesale Electric Quadrant (WEQ) Board of Directors

NAESB will Leverage Kee's Cyber-Security Expertise to Develop and Enforce Security Best Practices and Standards for the Electric Industry

Boston, MA - November 8 2012 - GlobalSign (, one of the leading providers of digital certificates worldwide, today announced that Chief Product and Marketing Officer Lila Kee has been appointed to the North American Energy Standards Board’s (NAESB) Wholesale Electric Quadrant (WEQ) Board of Directors' End-user Segment. NAESB serves as an industry forum for the development and promotion of standards that will lead to a seamless marketplace for wholesale and retail natural gas and electricity. As a member of the board, Kee will advise on key initiatives identified in NAESB’s 2012 and 2013 annual plans, and play a lead role in the development of security best practices and standards needed to secure electric-industry wholesale-business applications.

"NAESB members are wrestling with the issues surrounding cyber-security best practices and standards. The complexity involved in developing these standards, which strengthen the members' defensive posture and reduce risk, and the need to help guide the Board's direction, require individuals with expertise on cyber-related matters," said Rae McQuade, president of NAESB. "Lila is a respected member of the cyber-security community with deep expertise in Public Key Infrastructure. As a member of the board, she will be instrumental in providing guidance as our Executive Committee develops standards that will improve security for the commercial transactions of our industry.”

"I'm honored to be part of the WEQ board of directors and lend a security perspective to the board as NAESB develops standards that will help the energy sector prevent and mitigate dangers that threaten this crucial segment of our nation's infrastructure," said Kee. "My involvement allows me to influence GlobalSign’s product direction and road map to better fit those needs as well as the needs of other industries."

Kee is uniquely positioned to provide cyber-security guidance to NAESB members. She brings 20 years of experience in the PKI sector to NAESB, and under her leadership, GlobalSign and NAESB began a relationship a year ago that has since helped to establish stricter PKI standards for the WEQ that will strengthen defenses against modern-day cyber threats. As a member of the NAESB PKI executive sub-committee, she helped to construct current and future standards governing how vendors implement PKI policies for digital certificates used to secure business applications.
