RSA Wants Us All to Be Better…Let’s Crank it Up to 11

Well, it’s that time of year again. The time when cybersecurity’s best and brightest come together in San Francisco to share our latest thoughts, ideas and wares on combating and managing the scourge of cyber-jacking occurring and the horrors that may await us.

The folks at RSA are touting the following theme for this year: “BETTER”.

Better? To be more precise, their website says:

This year’s theme is, to put it simply, Better. Which means working hard to find better solutions. Making better connections with peers from around the world. And keeping the digital world safe so everyone can get on with making the real world a better place. Read more about Better.

Reading that I was a little perplexed. With the number of data breeches, hacks, phishing and ransomware attacks in 2018, I’m surprised RSA couldn’t create a “better” sense of urgency. Like “WATCH OUT: DO THIS NOW - THIS YEAR WE REALLY MEAN IT!”

Yeah, I know, those are bad themes but if the show planners had taken a little more time. I Google searched a few 2018 cyberattack headlines, I’m sure they could have come up with something better.

Our friends at Cisco have summarized how they’re taking the “Better” theme and cranking it up a level:

“The theme for next month’s RSA Conference (March 4 – 8 in San Francisco) is simply, “Better.” It signifies the need for those of us in the security industry to up our game. This is no time to rest. We must keep our noses to the grindstone to protect our technology infrastructure – in turn, making the world a safer place. This is exactly what Cisco has set out to do.”

Let’s face it, when it comes to cybersecurity, and more specifically, Public Key Infrastructure management - we can all be doing better. And we need to be…or else!

And that's related to our GlobalSign RSA theme this year: “PKI Automation for Mixed Endpoints”. At the GlobalSign booth in South Hall #1941, it's all about automating management of your PKI. Let's face it, you can buy a certificate anywhere (hopefully from us!), but being able to manage its security lifecycle - from deployment to end-of-life or revocation, on any machine, device, website, you name it - is a critical aspect of PKI, especially for mixed endpoint environments.

As the folks over at Cybersenate.com recently put it, “As our need for greater efficiency continues to drive the convergence of connected operational technology with enterprise IT systems, increasing the attack surface exponentially, we are reminded by high profile cyberattacks of the ability of determined and well-funded threat actors to penetrate our systems and disrupt operations across global critical infrastructure.”

They continued, “It is a matter of urgency that both public and private sectors develop cross-sector responsibility for driving and delivering improved cybersecurity. 21st-century war will begin and end on a keyboard, with critical infrastructure being the first and most significant target for our adversaries. Crippling water, electricity, power supply, transportation, financial and communications infrastructure are key for nation-state opponents, and a playground for hacktivists.”

To put it bluntly, Better just isn’t going to cut it anymore. As the bandmates in Spinal Tap say, “Let’s take this to 11”.

Being a Certificate Authority today means much more – and matters significantly – than it did five or 10 years ago. The responsibility is acute in terms of customers’ and companies’ safety and security online. And the support that a CA offers is critical on a daily basis to that safety and security. A CA must educate and assist customers in their PKI journey and the total certificate lifecycle management process, cradle to grave, protecting both entities, endpoints and brands from online hazards. This is so important that GlobalSign has dedicated our entire RSA booth to this aspect.

Specifically, we’ll be showcasing Enterprise-level PKI Automation and Management: Walking visitors through the easy way to manage PKI seamlessly, without having to be a Microsoft CA expert. We talk to companies every day, and there are many that never realized there’s a cloud-based certificate management platform available that reduces the effort, cost, and time associated with managing multiple (thousands) of enterprise digital certificates. This solution offers support for multiple entities under one account, and delegation of user administrators to offer complete, centralized control of certificates across an entire organization. Again, for machines, smart devices, mobile, web sites/servers/communications, and the digital signing of documents through single or complicated workflows.

Yes, GlobalSign does that - and more! If you have an infrastructure that isn’t managing PKI at this level, then we all need to be doing better. And just so you don’t think the gang here at GlobalSign are all work and no play… we have set up a giant Skee-Ball machine for your (and maybe our!) entertainment – so come play with us! Oh yeah, we are also giving away a giant UHD TV so come enter the raffle. Looking forward to seeing you at the show.

As far as we’re concerned, this show goes to 11…
