PersonalSign: Mozilla Thunderbird

Before following these instructions, please ensure that you have a copy of your PersonalSign certificate in a PFX (PKCS#12) format.
For certificate download instructions, please refer to our PersonalSign installation instructions.
If you download the certificate into your web browser’s certificate store, please export a copy of it.
Note: These instructions are based on Windows Operating System. Variation of the location of these options will occur in other operating systems.
- Open Thunderbird and select:
On the Certificate Manager Screen, under the tab labelled “Your certificates”, Select the “Import” button.
- Browse to the certificate and enter the PFX certificate password to import it to Thunderbird.

Under the Accounts section, select “View settings for this account”

Click on the Security option on the left hand side column;
- Select the certificate that was just imported to digitally sign and encrypt emails.

- Press the OK button when all the settings have been adjusted and you will be ready to use your PersonalSign certificate to sign and encrypt mail.
Tools > Options > Advanced > Certificates > View Certificates

Note: If you wish to digitally sign every email, please tick the “Digitally sign messages (by default)”.
Digitally Signing Emails with Thunderbird
Open a new email window

- Select the “Security” drop down menu to select “Digitally Sign This Message” and/or “encrypt this message”.
Note: To send Encrypted messages, you would need to first receive a digitally signed email message from the recipient.
