Why Notarization?
GlobalSign offers two types of digital certificate under the ObjectSign banner. If you apply as an organization we have access to additional sources of information to be able to verify the authenticity of your application, however, when applying as an individual, we require additional verification of your identity via Notarization of your application documents. Once notarized they may still be faxed to us for the validation process to be completed. In most cases there will be a Notary Public close to you. Please check your local yellow pages or search for a Notary Public in your area via the Internet.
What is a Notary Public?
A Notary Public is a public servant appointed by the State to act as an impartial witness in taking acknowledgments, administering oaths and affirmations, and performing other acts authorized by state law. Notaries lend credibility to the authenticity of certain sensitive signed documents. A notarized document lends assurance to the public that it's signer is the person who signed the document - and to the signer that the document they have signed will have full force and effect. In the case of GlobalSign issued ObjectSign certificates they lend credibility to the application and identification with which you have applied.
- What Identification is required for notarization?
(This may vary, so please check with your local notary before you appear in person.) Generally you must present at least one of the forms of ID listed below. The ID must be current, contain your photograph, personal description, and signature; and bear a serial or other identifying number (Civil Code, Section 1185 in the US). It must also be the ID that you intend to submit to GlobalSign:
- • Driver's License
- • ID card
- • Passport
You may also be asked to provide some additional documentation, so please check with your local notary before you appear in person. |
