GlobalSign Secures Axentra's HipServ

Trusted Root Technology enables Authentication & Privacy as part of new HipServ Advanced Security Subscription

RSA Conference, Calif. –7 April, 2008 – GlobalSign (www.globalsign.com), a leading Certification Authority and SSL security specialist, today announced  a partnership with Axentra (www.axentra.com), developer of the award-winning HipServ home server software platform, to provide layered security through its Trusted Root  solution for Axentra’s HipServ.  The incorporation of Trusted Root will allow HipServ users to authenticate and secure local and remote connections to their HipServ home server.  It secures the transfer of all types of digital files, including media and documents on a wide variety of platforms and devices.

For example, a consumer on a train journey can connect to their HipServ device and access their music collection stored at home, through any Internet browser on mobile and handheld devices such as phones and PDAs.  Axentra uses top-level SSL security (enabled by GlobalSign’s Trusted Root solution) to enable trust and security when connecting to HipServ for saving, storing, syncing and sharing digital media, over a wide variety of platforms and devices.  This optional security will be made available to all HipServ customers through the Advanced Security Subscription.

Axentra operates its own internal PKI (Public Key Infrastructure).  GlobalSign’s Trusted Root solution has been a perfect solution to enable it to cryptographically “chain” its internal Certification Authority to the widely distributed and publicly trusted GlobalSign Root CA Certificate – a certificate that has been pre-embedded in all popular browsers, mobile devices and applications for over 10 years.  The Trusted Root solution will enable all Axentra certificates to be transparently trusted, and therefore create a seamless user experience when securely connecting to a HipServ device.

Furthermore, the industry leading rollout-time for Trusted Root deployments will soon enable Axentra customers to benefit from world class SSL solutions ensuring Axentra receives an accelerated ROI (return on investment).

“When evaluating potential partners for this project, the necessity to work with a company with a global security reputation was essential.  GlobalSign brings over 10 years of experience in the security sector and the presence of its Certificates will benefit end users,” said Niall O'Driscoll, Vice President of Product for Axentra.  “Deploying the Trusted Root solution enables Axentra to offer highly visible proof that home-based HipServ home servers offer secure and authentic data connections.  With these measures in place HipServ users and visitors know they are on a legitimate site that can be trusted.”

“Axentra is leading the way in recognizing that customers require vendors to take responsibility in implementing security for the services they use.  As such, GlobalSign is excited to be working on this forward facing new project with Axentra to fulfil the security needs of their customer base,” said Johan Sys, CEO, GlobalSign Inc.  “This partnership is a great reflection of technical and customer service capabilities and will act to spread the reach of GlobalSign’s Trusted Root to the growing home server and device certificate market.”

The HipServ Advanced Security Subscription will first be available to owners of the LaCie Ethernet Disk mini – Home Edition personal media server at a subscription price of $39.99/year.
