Paul joins GlobalSign directly from GeoTrust where he held the position of Managing Director for GeoTrust Europe and VP of Sales for GeoTrust’s RapidSSL.com business unit. Following the acquisition of GeoTrust by VeriSign in September 2006, Paul was key in identifying the opportunity left in the market to create a viable alternative to the VeriSign stronghold of Certification Authority companies (now comprising of VeriSign, GeoTrust and Thawte). In October 2006, Paul, as part of a specialist management team assembled by GMO Internet Group, led the acquisition of GlobalSign ready for a 2007 relaunch. Paul now assumes a core management and board position as the Managing Director for GlobalSign’s EMEA operations.
Prior to GlobalSign , Paul was co-founder and Managing Director for GeoTrust Europe – the European arm of GeoTrust Inc. Within 3 years Paul had grown the organization to over 30 staff, spanning Europe and Australia, and had achieved number one positions for SSL market share in a number of European countries.
As co-founder and VP Sales for RapidSSL.com, Paul led the team responsible for strategising, launching, distributing and supporting GeoTrust’s low-end brand of SSL Certificates targeted at the SMB market. RapidSSL.com was the fastest growing SSL brand for the period of 2005-2006 and contributed significantly to GeoTrust’s market share.
Prior to joining GeoTrust, Paul held the position of Managing Director with Comodo – a UK based online security company. During his time at Comodo Paul led the management team responsible for the launch of the Comodo’s SSL Certificate brand (InstantSSL) and other Comodo products.
Paul has a very successful history of working in high technology companies, in particular the launch of high value start-ups. In 2000 Paul founded Silex Communications – an organization focussing on the Wireless Communication and Internet Connectivity markets. Silex quickly became European Rep of the year for Cambridge Silicon Radio, the world’s leading Bluetooth semiconductor supplier and followed a 1993 startup, where Paul as Sales Director, established the largest semiconductor component distributor for NEC in Europe.
Paul holds a BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Sheffield University, is a Chartered Engineer CEng MIEE, and was sponsored through university by GEC where he graduated in 1988.
